Seeking to improve the quality of life for those victimized by sexual assault, this program strives to expand awareness in the community on issues related to sexual violence.
Located in the Compton Program Location, services are provided for those 12 years of age and up in the communities of Compton, Lynwood, Watts, Willowbrook and Gardena.
Women's self-defense, safety techniques and psychological assessment of the dynamics and impact of rape are some of the services that trained or licensed staff provide.
Additionally, program services are provided by student interns and volunteers through a 40-hour training program certified by the State of California with particular emphasis on cultural diversity and sensitivity.
The goals of the program are to offer support to rape survivors and extend this support to family and friends. This is done in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere where rape survivors can turn for the help they need. The program also strives to heighten community awareness, provide information on the rape trauma syndrome and refer survivors to appropriate medical, legal and social services.
