Volunteers of the YWCA/GLA are involved in all facets of YWCA work. Volunteers are involved from the policy level to helping a child with his/her homework. The YWCA/GLA has volunteer opportunities in the following areas:
   
  • Sexual Assault Crisis volunteers counsel women and youth that have been sexually assaulted, provide coverage for a 24 hour 7 day per week hotline, also provide accompaniment and advocacy services. Position requires 40 hour training and commitment for one-year.

  • After-school Programs volunteers work with young people 6 - 18 years of age through the YWCA's PEARL program (Prevention, Empowerment, Academics, Recreation, Leadership). Volunteers assist Program Specialist with the implementation of youth activities at YWCA program locations and school sites. Position requires training, Department of Justice and FBI clearances.

  • Administrative/Support volunteers assist the professional and facilities staff with clerical work.

  • Program Assistant volunteers work hand in hand with program volunteers.

  • Event Volunteers assist with many duties during one-day events, such as the Luncheon, Benefactrix Ball, or program events.

  • Professional Development volunteers provide professional services such as public speaking, mentoring, etc.

All volunteers are required to attend a two-hour orientation, complete a volunteer application, be interviewed and screened by trained staff. Volunteers may be required to have fingerprint clearances. For further information or application call (213) 365-2991.
