Youth Enrichment Program (Watts)

The goal of our after school program is to provide a safe haven and supervised environment for students during critical hours after school, Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (different schedule applies on minimum days).

The after school program is comprised of three major components: Academic Assistance, Enrichment, and Recreation. The students engage in selecting activities according to their interests. All students in the program receive a snack during program time. Our program has a staff to student ratio of up to 1 - 20. School and Community Groups are encouraged to collaborate in designing and delivering services to the student participants.

The YWCA of Greater Los Angeles Youth Development Programs and Los Angeles Unified School District Beyond the Bell Branch has been working with the State’s After School Safety Education Program and federal 21st Century Learning Centers and other partnerships to engage young people in after-school programs.

Research has shown that youth are more likely to engage in at-risk behaviors and are more susceptible to dangers in the neighborhoods during the hours of 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Recent research shows that youth attending after-school programs, which might otherwise be unsupervised, are less likely to use drugs, get in trouble, or become victims of crimes.
