Are men and boys allowed to participate in the activities of the YWCA?
The YWCA was founded to empower women and their families, including fathers, husbands and sons. Young men are active participants in many YWCA activities and men are employed in applicable staff positions.
YWCA membership, however, is only open to women and girls – but men and boys who wish to be involved with the YWCA are accepted as Associates, with all equal rights and privileges – except that only women may participate as members of the Board of Directors. -
What is the relationship between the YWCA and the YMCA?
There is no connection between the YWCA and the YMCA, despite the similarity in the names. These are two, independent organizations. The YWCA is not the women’s auxiliary of the YMCA, nor does the YWCA operate health club facilities.

What do the initials YWCA mean?
The YWCA stands for The Young Women’s Christian Association.

Gifts may be designated for use in any or all of our program areas:

How can I give at my place of employment?
Donor designated contributions may be made to the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles through United Way and the Combined Federal Campaigns. Contact your Human Resources Department for further details.
