Job Training

Job Corps is the nation's largest residential and educational training program for homeless, emancipated, and at-risk youth, ages 16 to 24. Through a nationwide network of campuses, Job Corps has been training young adults for meaningful careers since 1964. For eligible youth, Job Corps provides the all-around skills needed to succeed in a career and in life.

LOS ANGELES JOB CORPS

The YWCA began administering the Los Angeles Job Corps Program in 1965. We focus on a holistic career development training approach which integrates the teaching of academic, vocational, employability skills and social competencies through a combination of classroom, and practical based learning experiences to prepare youth for stable, long-term, high-paying jobs.

Leveraging formal and informal partnerships with many businesses, employers, training facilities and community organizations allows LA Job Corps to deliver its comprehensive service model, which includes job placement.

Programming is composed of the following components:

• Academic Training: All participants are encouraged to obtain a GED or High School Diploma while completing the academic component of the program.
• Vocational Training: Participants choose from over 30 vocational trades including health care, business technology, communications, building trades, electronics, and culinary arts. Training is accessed through on-site training programs, partner training institutions or through work-based internships with Job Corps partner organizations.
• Social/Employability Skills Training: A wide variety of additional training curriculum is offered to complement the formal educational and vocational training. These include: Career Exploration Program, Career Skills, Information Technology, Employability Skills, Driver's Education, Social Skills Training, Wellness Education and Diversity Training.

• Health Care: Comprehensive health care services (physical, mental, dental) and wellness education are provided to all program participants on-site.

• Social Services: Career Managers and Career Transition Specialists provide on-going case management services to clients throughout the duration of participation in the program. Social service referrals to our community-based partners are provided to assist clients in addressing their additional life barriers to achieving success (legal, mental health, domestic violence, etc).

• Employment/Housing Placement: Participants are provided with employment and housing placement services to facilitate their transition into self-sufficiency. Clients are offered support and tracked for up to two years post-graduation.

The multi-component curriculum has led to many great individual and programmatic successes. The Los Angeles Job Corps consistently ranks amongst the top Job Corps Centers in the nation.
