YWCA Receives Grant

Thursday July 02, 2009

Union Bank of California has presented the YWCA Greater Los Angeles (YWCA/GLA) with a $200,000 grant to be distributed over three yearsThis grant provides the YWCA/GLA with the flexibility to expand its educational components across the board and contributes to the growth potential of program participants.

Programs such as the YWCA's Job Corps, that prepares youth with the skills needed to succeed, benefit from this contribution.

Kathleen Kavanaugh, a vice president at Union Bank, provided more than 200 Job Corps graduates with words of encouragement at their recent commencement. "Chapter One is starting out on this journey of life by successfully completing the Job Corps program and graduating," said Kavanaugh. "Pay attention, leverage your skills and communicate well because this will be beneficial to your future employers."

The YWCA's Job Corps graduates are an example of Union Bank's strong commitment to education, California's youth and its future workforce. Union Bank is a long-time supporter of the YWCA/GLA and its mission of empowering women, children and communities.

"The partnership with Union Bank is wonderful. We have emerged from a partnership into a marriage where both partners understand the give-and-take to sustain our community," said Faye Washington, CEO, YWCA/GLA. "The three-year support affords the YWCA/GLA the ability to effectively and strategically plan activities that allow our organization to grow."
