LABC Awards YWCA GLA Job Corps Urban Campus with 2010 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award

(Los Angeles, CA) The YWCA Greater Los Angeles Urban Campus recently won the 2010 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, presented by the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC). The honor was presented at the 40th annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards, which recognized project teams responsible for the city's very best architecture.

Selected by a jury of 10 notable design and building professionals, the winning projects cut across a wide range of building types, from commercial office spaces to affordable apartment complexes to sports arenas. The call for entries went out in December 2009 to more than 7,000 industry leaders. From the hundreds of submissions received, the jury selected 31 winning projects in 20 overall categories, including the award won by the YWCA Greater Los Angeles Urban Campus Job Corps.

The winning project team for the YWCA Greater Los Angeles Urban Campus includes: Jenkins/Gales and Martinez Inc (Architect); PCL Construction Services, Inc. (Contractor); YWCA Greater Los Angeles Urban Campus Development Corporation (Owner) with special recognition to project partners RedStone Project Management, Inc., Blankmeyer Enterprises, Inc. and Veloce Partners.

YWCA of Greater Los Angeles' Job Corps Urban Campus is a multi-use facility that provides education, job training, housing and medical services for at-risk youth. The YWCA's creation of a unique campus-like environment in the heart of downtown will help meet the needs of young people, providing facilities that include an outdoor courtyard and an amphitheater for classroom and recreation activities.
