Faye Washington named a "Woman of the Year" by LA County Commission for Women
Award presented at 26th Annual Women of the Year Luncheon

During the 26th Annual Women of the Year Luncheon on March 14, 2011, Faye Washington, CEO of the YWCA Greater Los Angeles, was honored by the Los Angeles County Commission for Women. Selected to be honored from the 1st District, represented by the Honorable Gloria Molina, Ms. Washington was recognized for her career of working to improve the quality of life for women and girls in the Los Angeles area.

"To be recognized by the commission for my work at the YW is such a profound honor for me," stated Faye Washington. "I am passionate about the mission and work of the YWCA and am energized to keep pressing forward with creating innovative and relevant solutions for women and families in greater Los Angeles."

For the past 25 years, the commission has recognized women who have worked to bring about social and economic change, served as outstanding role models for women, worked on behalf of women's issues and demonstrated outstanding performance within their professions to further advocate women's rights.

Since taking the helm 10 years ago, Ms. Washington has infused her groundbreaking vision into the organization and has ignited a new direction. Under her leadership, assets have risen by 400 percent and the YWCA Greater Los Angeles envisions sustained growth for the next 20 years.
