Thursday October 13, 2011

The YWCA Greater Los Angeles, along with lead sponsors Edison International and Union Bank, proudly presents its 2011 Black & White Benefactrix Ball to be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Hosted by the YWCA Society of Benefactrix, a circle of women who work to be a catalyst for change for women and families in the Greater Los Angeles community, this year's event carries the theme "Urban Campus...The House That Love Built: Celebrating the Power of Faith, Fight, Favor and Friends".

"The YWCA GLA and its partners fight the good fight of empowering our youth to be self sufficient. Our programs are designed to send arrows of hope into the future so generations will benefit," said Faye Washington, CEO, YWCA/GLA. "We are celebrating a milestone of completing the Job Corps Urban Campus, a fully funded building that will provide free housing, meals, vocational training and support for youth of the Los Angeles community. Now that we have achieved this dream against impossible odds, with increased faith and vigor, we are turning our sights on launching the Empowerment Village."

The gala will honor individuals who champion the YWCA GLA mission. The 2011 Corporate Champion Award recipient is Dave Blankmeyer of PCL Construction; the award is presented to individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership in corporate responsibility and community relations. The 2011 Silver Achievement Award recipient is Ayahlushim Getachew, Vice president of Thomas Properties Group; the award is presented to individuals with a dynamic career of service locally and domestically.

"We are proud to salute these extraordinary honorees and their accomplishments in the community and around the world," continued Washington. "Their example is one that inspires us all. We welcome all to join our celebration. It will be an elegant evening that raises money and increases opportunities for young people, women and families in our community."
The fundraiser draws over 400 guests representing LA's top business leaders, humanitarians, financial supporters, dignitaries and celebrities to raise awareness and funds in support of YWCA GLA community programs. The ball will feature elegant black & white décor and 1920's inspired theme with a live and silent auction, gourmet dinner, dancing and live performances by 8-piece orchestra, Chuck Wansley After Dark. Comedian Shelley Dennis will serve as the event's Mistress of Ceremony and comedian Kym Whitley will return this year as the Celebrity Auctioneer.
