YWCA GLA Partners With Prestigious Los Angeles Foundations
Wednesday January 19, 2011
The YWCA GLA partnered with Ralph M. Parson's Foundation and the Weingart Foundation and was awarded two, multi-year grants totaling $450,000 to support the Union Pacific Empowerment Center's child, youth and senior empowerment programs.
"We are proud to be a recipient of funding from the Weingart and Ralph M. Parson's Foundations and are excited about our new partnership," said Tracy Clark, Director of Development. "Both foundations have a long-standing reputation in the Los Angeles community."
Eight years ago, the YWCA opened the Union Pacific Child Development Center serving 45 preschool children. Operated out of a small modular building, the program was a success but it became clear that the community need was greater. The new Union Pacific Empowerment Center opened its doors in February 2010 and now has 80 spots for children including infants, and is designed to host children's, youth, and senior's programs.
Funds received from both the Ralph M. Parson’s and Weingart Foundations will help to fund ongoing program costs of the new center over the next two years.
