YWCA Salutes Councilwoman Jan Perry, Kathy Ireland, and Women Who Are Instruments of Change

On May 18, 2011, over 400 people attended the YWCA's 2011 Phenomenal Woman Awards Luncheon at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza. Sponsored by Union Bank, Edison International and AEG, the event theme focused on "Saluting Women Who are Instruments of Change".

The Honorable Jan Perry, Los Angeles Council Ninth District and Council President Pro Tempore, was presented with the 2011 Phenomenal Community Leader Award and Kathy Ireland, Supermodel and CEO of Kathy Ireland Worldwide was presented with the 2011 Phenomenal Woman of the Year Award for their dedication to the Los Angeles community.  Both Councilwoman Perry's and Ms. Ireland's personal and professional contributions have moved the YWCA's mission forward for women, children and girls all over the globe and we are honored to salute them." stated Faye Washington, CEO, YWCA Greater Los Angeles.  "We are overjoyed to honor these two women -- their diligence to serve the people of Los Angeles requires great vision, passion, insight and purpose."

Presenting sponsor, Union Bank, announced their $50,000 contribution for 2011. Other key event sponsors included Edison International, AEG, PCL Construction and Chase Bank. Media sponsors included Los Angeles Confidential Magazine, Los Angeles Times and Clear Channel Radio. "We are beyond grateful for such committed partners and sponsors who support the work of the YWCA in the local community." continued Ms. Washington.

Hosted by Josefa Salinas, Clear Channel Radio Personality, the event was a gathering of Los Angeles' Who's Who with special honoree tribute performed by Grammy nominated recording artist Kelly Price.  Award winning actors Hill Harper and Sheryl Lee Ralph presented the awards to our honorees.  In addition to the two honorees, over 60 phenomenal women were also honored by their respective corporations whose names are appended below.
