YWCA Society of Benefactrix Recognizes Loyal Donors

Thursday March 17, 2011

The YWCA Society of Benefactrix, a special group of humanitarians established in 2001 to address issues facing women, honored some of their loyal donors at their Springtime Afternoon Tea on March 2nd held at the City Club on Bunker Hill. Over 65 Society of Benefactrix members and prospective members attended the event showing their dedication and support of the YWCA GLA.

During the event, two notable members were honored for their dedication to the mission of the YWCA. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Ethel Sanford Smith, a Society of Benefactrix member and supporter of the YWCA GLA for over 40 years. Debbie Beavers-Watford received the Trailblazer Award for her innovative support and generosity toward the organization.

"When this group was created, we envisioned a collection of women - catalysts who affect change in Los Angeles County," stated Faye Washington. "As society members help the community, the YWCA is dedicated to being a forum for growth affecting their circle of influence and careers."

Attendees enjoyed a reminder of the importance of the society and its support of the YWCA GLA as student Samantha Tames spoke of the "Dream it, Own it" message she is learning during her training at Job Corps. She thanked the society and the YWCA GLA for investing in her future and changing her life direction.

"I have the honor of working with this thriving, philanthropic group of women," explained Maritza Collins, new addition to the YWCA Development Team and Society of Benefactrix Liaison. "Much more than a donor circle, this is a place for women to utilize their talents and resources to better the community."

At the tea, the Society of Benefactrix welcomed 12 new members, reinstated 3 members and presented them with time-honored YWCA GLA custom-made Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Charm Bracelets and other donor gifts; and raised over $10,000 that evening.
