ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The YWCA Greater Los Angeles Survivor Empowerment Services provides comprehensive resources for all survivors of sexual assault, rape, human sex trafficking, and domestic violence.
We solemnly pledge to honor survivors who have broken their silence and support victims who have yet to use their voices. Responding to the needs of underserved communities impacted by sexual violence has been a major priority of YWCA Greater Los Angeles for nearly 40 years, and we are the largest provider of survivor services in Los Angeles County.
By working closely with the community as a central resource for survivors and their families, we improve society’s response to these destructive crimes. We employ wraparound services across our organization to ensure that survivors can heal, recover and rebuild.

What we provide
At our three community Empowerment centers, we offer services that address the wide range of trauma symptoms that impact survivors. After an encounter with sexual or gender-based violence, the aftereffects frequently interfere with caregiving obligations, the pursuit of goals, and even the ability to maintain a job. The cumulative impact from such an experience increases the likelihood of stress-related illnesses. We hope to ward off such negative fallout by supplying:
Complete confidentiality
Safe and secure location
Child and court advocacy
Mental health services virtual and on site
Economic empowerment
Employment assistance
Support and educational groups
Case management
Safety plans

Crisis intervention
We provide comprehensive services to all survivors of rape, human sex trafficking, and domestic violence, regardless of gender identity or socio-economic status. We offer a 24-hour crisis hotline and accompaniment services to forensic exams, all done in partnership with a forensic nurse and law enforcement.
Advocacy accompaniment is available for survivors who choose to pursue legal justice through the civil or criminal justice systems.
We also offer case management, individual and group counseling, community education and outreach, and prevention training for volunteer advocates through our 66-hour certification for sexual and intimate violence advocates.
Child sexual assault awareness classes are available for non-offending parents.

Prevention
Our Survivor Empowerment Services team provides community education, outreach, and prevention training for middle, high school, and college-aged students throughout middle and high schools in Compton, Paramount and Los Angeles.
We offer education on sexual violence and intimate partner violence, including information on what healthy relationships should look like and how relationship patterns learned in adolescence can carry into future partnerships. If red flags are learned early, this can have a lifelong benefit on the students’ physical and emotional well-being. All in all, the program works to reduce the potential for sexual risk and relationship violence in our communities.

In person and online offerings
Since March 2020, Survivor Empowerment service has integrated virtual services, offering online sexual assault classes, workshops, certification training, and human trafficking seminars led by staff members and advocates.

I became an advocate because I did not want others to feel the loneliness and shame that myself and my loved one experienced. I wanted to be someone that could not just provide support with an understanding of trauma but provide hope.
