A Message From Our CEO

YWCA Greater Los Angeles remains unwavering in our commitment to our mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Dear YWCA Greater Los Angeles Friends,

The last week has been one of deep reflection on the results of the 2024 election and the implications for our community. At YWCA Greater Los Angeles we continue to be guided by our anti-racist, anti-sexist mission that upholds peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. I want to name the significance of Vice President Kamala Harris’s candidacy and the impact it has had on so many across the nation. As the first Black and South Asian American woman nominated by a major party to run for the nation’s highest office, she broke barriers and modeled a leadership path for today’s women and girls and future generations to come.

Throughout our 130-year history, the YWCA Greater Los Angeles has been a place in the communities we serve that celebrates, uplifts, and supports every person, regardless of political changes and differences. Our Empowerment Centers and satellite locations will continue to be safe places that provide supportive environments for all our children, youth, families, seniors, volunteers, and staff. We will continue to help women and their families, thrive during these uncertain times by advocating for the rights of all people, especially those of color.

YWCA Greater Los Angeles does not shy away from the hard work and determination needed to build a racially equitable nation in which women and girls can thrive. Even in a divided climate, hope remains powerful. Today, we recommit to our mission, lead in the way we hope to be led, and turn towards justice.

Thank you for your support.

Warm regards,

Lori Carmona
