What we provide
YWCA Greater Los Angeles’ Economic Empowerment Programs help individuals build the skills, confidence, and pathways needed for long-term stability and success. We support participants in advancing in their current careers or transitioning into new opportunities through individualized career planning, skill-building, and job readiness support.
Our programs include pathways to becoming an early childhood educator and administrative support in the medical field, as well as Paint LA, an entrepreneurship program in partnership with In The Mix, Inc., where participants learn business fundamentals and receive guidance on starting their own businesses. Designed with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in mind, and accessible to parents and caregivers, our programs use economic empowerment as a preventative tool to promote financial independence, stability, and safer futures.
Economic empowerment at the YWCA GLA Empowerment Centers
YWCA Greater Los Angeles Economic Empowerment Program serve as gateways to Los Angeles’ workforce system, offering an array of free job search resources. This includes access to current job postings, computers and other technology, job search workshops, personalized resume and cover letter assistance, career counseling, peer-supported job clubs, computer skills training, and opportunities to connect with employers through hiring events and job fairs.
In addition to core services, some locations offer on-site vocational training, financial literacy education, one-on-one financial coaching, community banking services, and ABE, ESL, and GED instruction. We also provide access to community partnerships and referral pipelines, and employer connections.
Why economic empowerment matters
When you have access to financial resources, you gain greater agency in your personal life, greater ability to navigate or leave abusive situations, and the power to challenge norms that have long enabled control and harm. This can be in your home, your workplace, or your community.
Economic empowerment doesn’t eliminate abuse or absolve abusers, but education and opportunity do shift what society expects, and what you can grow to expect for yourself.
Built for the women furthest from opportunity
We are committed to economic justice. Our programs are designed specifically for women who have faced the greatest barriers, and we focus on your unique and existing strengths as you move through your job search and career planning.
